The Fiedler Hillel center at Northwestern University needed a site to appeal to multiple audiences: students looking to become involved with Jewish life on campus, local non-University community members needing a place to find religious services and alumni and parents looking to stay connected. Matchstick won this project over its competitors by focusing on providing features and benefits for all of these target groups. In addition to its elegant, photo-rich design, the co ntent management system makes it easy for Hillel staff members and student leaders to manage, update and customize the site with no technical knowledge. |

The new site for the Tannenbaum Chabad House at Northwestern University is easy to use but carries a host of information, including lecture and social schedules, upcoming events and information about Birthright Israel programs. An animated Flash banner and an elegant photo gallery are two of the visual centerpieces of the site, but the project comes complete with practicalities, too. A Google map shows the location of the Chabad House's physical location, and an automatically updating RSS feed lets tech-savvy users never miss an upcoming event. From the owner's perspective, the site is totally customizable. An administrator can log in, add, edit, delete and reorganize content and even add, edit or delete as many photos as he or she chooses with every article he or she posts. The administrator can even add captions and titles to the photos, which are uploaded, stored and accessed seamlessly and transparently through photo-sharing site Flickr. The site also features Matchstick's most secure backend content-management system built to date. |

PhotoMatch, while not an official Matchstick project, was co-designed by Matchstick president Lee Ettleman and Elizabeth Gibson for a class project. The site allows users to post news articles, but then automatically attempts to figure out what the articles are about and find photos relevant to that article. The site is meant to promote new ways of telling stories, and includes a number of fully automated features, such as providing a timeline for a given article in photos and providing a map to the dateline of a given article. Users can also interact by posting their own photos or comments. The site also sports a photo slideshow and audio and video clips.

Northwestern Class Alliance is a student organization that specializes in planning events for all members of the Northwestern University community. NCA wanted a Web site they could use to inform the school about their events, so Matchstick created a site with a content management system customized for their needs. The site features logins for multiple levels of authority, and gives NCA staffers full capabilities to post articles and photos about their events, seperated into categories, without any knowledge of HTML or coding. The site also allows users to register and add events to a watch list, so they can be e-mailed with details about events that interest them.

The first official Matchstick project, IndepenDANCEparty.com promoted a party thrown at an establishment in Evanston, Illinois to celebrate Israel's indepencance. To market the event, the site played selected Israeli music and allowed guests to request songs to be played at the event. Other visitors to the site could then see what previous guests had requested so they would know what sort of music would play at the event.
